Travel Safety

Traveling soon?  There’s nothing worse than getting sick while you’re away from home.  Here are a few great tips to make sure you stay healthy on your next vacation!

#1 Heading outside the United States? Make sure you have all the necessary shots and vaccines for your trip. Contact us and we can help you get ready with the vaccines you need to make your trip safe and memorable. You can also check out the US Department of Health and Human Services at https://www.vaccines.gov/travel/ to find up to date vaccine information for your travel destination.

#3 Wash your hands. Wash your both before and after eating, after using the restroom, before and after handling raw foods like eggs and meats. Use proper hand-washing technique, wash your hands thoroughly under running water for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap. According to Mayo Clinic, the temperature of the water does not matter as long as lather with soap and vigorously wash continuously for 20 second.

#2 Drink plenty of water. This is especially true if you are traveling to high altitude places like Colorado or arid places like deserts and beaches. Dehydration can cause fatigue and make you more susceptible to other illnesses. In general, drinking eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day is what the body needs, whether you are flying, sailing or driving.

#4 Remember to be mindful and enjoy your vacation with plenty of sleep and rest. Not getting enough sleep can weaken your immune system so have a great time and pay attention to your body when it needs to rest.
We hope you all have a great, exciting adventure!
