Did you make a New Years Resolution? If so, did it have something to do with a healthier 2018? If you are like a large portion of the American population, your resolution most likely involved losing weight, eating healthier, or exercising more, all of which are great! However, if you are like most Americans, according to the New York Times, “By Jan. 8, some 25 percent of resolutions have fallen by the wayside. And by the time the year ends, fewer than 10 percent have been fully kept.” If you are one of the many who have let their healthier 2018 goals slip away, not to worry! We have some tips for you to get back on track with your healthier 2018 resolutions!
Find a Fitness Friend – It is no secret that getting into a new routine is difficult, but if you can find a friend who is on the same quest for a healthier 2018, you are both in luck! You will be able to provide each other with support, motivation, accountability, and praise! Plus, working out with someone else is always more fun!
Meal Plan – Life is busy, that’s a fact! If you can find time at the beginning on the week to plan your meals, and do as much prep as possible, you have a much better chance of not falling into the rut of eating out, and looking for the quick and easy meal options that often times are high in calories and low in nutrients.
Set Achievable Goals – Set yourself up for success by making goals towards your healthier 2018 that you will be able to achieve! That’s not to say that you should set goals that are too easy, and won’t add to a healthier and happier you. But if your goal is unrealistic, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. If you currently work out once a week, instead of promising to work out every day, find a compromise and set a goal to work out 3-4 times a week! Enjoy your success, and be proud of yourself!
No one is perfect, and it is so easy to let our goals and resolutions slip away. Forgive yourself, and promise yourself you will try again! Being mad at yourself won’t help you get back on track towards a healthier 2018. Accept that you are human, and life happens, but also realize that just because your goals got off track doesn’t mean they have to stay that way!
